Mission Impossible 3 (2006) – Review

Directed by JJ Abrams

Mission Impossible based on the TV-series of late 80‚Äôs has developed into a trilogy with the latest instalment being Mission Impossible 3. The character of Ethan Hunt, part of a covert operations unit carrying out highly sensitive missions, has become iconic with moviegoers alike. All three movies in the series have been fuelled with high-octane performances, action-packed stunts and great twists and turns. And, Mission Impossible 3 is no exception…

Director JJ Abrams was offered the role of directing the movie after Tom Cruise saw the TV-series ‘Alias’ on DVD, which Abrams had created. The film had gone through some ups and downs with several accomplished Directors being associated with the movie.

So what do I think of Mi:3? Well what can I say…in contrast to the two previous films, Mi:3 starts off in a non-linear fashion, with the audience being shown the ‘crunch’ scene first, and then the film goes back in time revealing how the story got to that point. So by doing something different, the Director is already creating a film that is original.

The CGI is seamless and is very difficult to spot. But most importantly the story and characters bring a new dimension to the series with memorable performances from, in particular the villain ‘Owen Davian’ played by Oscar Winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Tom Cruise.

I don‚Äôt want to reveal too much, but the action in this moves up a notch – it is well thought out and choreographed and fits in well with the story. All these elements put together along with stunning locations and loads of other stuff I have purposefully not mentioned makes for a great film. I‚Äôm not a big fan of action/ adventure films, but I think I have to make an exception when it comes to commenting upon Mission Impossible 3. My final words are‚Ķgo watch it, if you don‚Äôt like the story, you‚Äôll enjoy the cinematography, humour, explosions and twists and turns.

This rating might be a little unexpected, but I’m sticking to 9/10.
