The Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (2005) – Review

Directed by Andrew Adamson

I went in to the showing with very vague memories of the BBC Television films. One thing I could remember was the sub title of the film – ‘The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe’.

From the outset the film is imaginative and realistic in its depiction of the The Blitz in London. The film is simple and yet unique in itself.

So what of Narnia, and the world that C.S Lewis has created. Well, what can I say there are Thorns, Minatours, Lions, Tigers, Bears and loads of other species of life I don’t know the names of. C.S Lewis’s world of Narnia is magical and reminded so much of ‘The Wizard Of Oz’. I was amazed at how realistic all the creatures were especially ‘Aslan’. They talk like normal people, the ‘beavers’ were particularly funny.

‘The White Witch’ played by Tilda Swinton, is different from your typical ‘baddie’, because she comes across being elegant and grand in appearance. Yet, underneath she is as ‘cold as ice’.

I could blabber on all I like, but if you have time go and watch the film, I’m sure you won’t be dissapointed.

8/10
