A dedication to Cameron Duncan
Cameron Duncan was a unique individual. From West Auckland, New Zealand, Cameron died at the age of 17 from Osteosarcoma Cancer. He was an athlete, promising Softball pitcher and an aspiring filmmaker. He made several films in his spare time and was winning awards since the age of 13.
Having been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma Cancer in February 2002 he went on to write and direct two short films ‘DFK6498’ and ‘Strikezone’, which alone signify how talented Cameron was. Along with these short films, Cameron also directed a public awareness advert for Organ Donors.
He was the inspiration for the song ‘Into The West’ in ‘The Lord Of The Rings – Return Of The King’ Directed by Peter Jackson and features on the trilogy DVD boxset.
He is a role model for many in New Zealand and around the world because of his determination, enthusiasm for life and talent in everything he attempted.
I have seen those very close to me suffer from Cancer and can relate in some ways to Cameron’s experiences.
After watching ‘Strikezone’ I realised that Cancer affects everyone – young and old. It reaffirmed the importance of living life passionately and taking each new day as an opportunity to really make a difference.
One person can change things, you can change things if you put your mind to it and work your hardest.
If you have the ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Trilogy Boxset, watch the second disc of the Appendices of ‘Return Of The King’.
In putting up this page I hope to spread awareness of Cameron and his work, but more importantly to share an idea with you, a philosophy that is close to my heart. Cameron Duncan was amongst a few very individuals that gave me inspiration for my final year project 11:59.
